THE OFFICE WINDOW
DO remember that all CORRESPONDENCE appertaining to the Association must be addressed to the SECRETARY
DO remember that if possible the AGM of clubs should be held in November, preferably before the County AGM in mid November so that particulars necessary for Form A may be accurate and can be given without fail by November 15th.
DO remember that the COUNTY SECRETARY must be informed when a County official is to be invited to a club dinner and given as long a time as possible in writing. If the official is expected to propose or respond to a toast he should be informed beforehand with the option of dress. It is normally assumed that the official will either propose “The Club” or respond to the toast of “Surrey County B.A.”
DO remember that the Surrey County Annual Dinner will be held at Leatherhead Leisure Centre on Saturday, 1st November, 2005. Remember to make a note of this in your diary.
DO remember that the County AGM will be held also at Leatherhead Leisure Centre on Saturday, 8th November, at 10.30 for 11.00 a.m.
DO remember to deal promptly with all matters concerning the Association, namely the return of Forms A, B, C and D. Delays mean extra postage and unneccessary waste of time.
DO remember the greenkeeper’s gratuity after playing your competition game.
DO remember County Badges and Ties, for those entitled to wear them, can be obtained from the County Treasurer. Cloth blazer badges £7.00; wire badges £7.00; ties £4.50 (plus 40p postage).
DO remember that by a Bowls England resolution only male players can compete in County Competitions and matches.
DO remember that any club affiliated to the Association cannot change its green or title without applying to and receiving the consent of the Association.
DON’T forget that the Surrey County Championships — Singles, Pairs, Triples, Fours and Under 25 Singles — lead to national honours. There is NO other way.
DON’T forget that scorecards of all competitions must be sent to the Area Competition Secretaries at the close of the game.
DON’T forget that composition bowls for competitive and domestic play must bear a legible stamp of 1985 or later. (They can continue to be used without restamping until such time as the stamp becomes illegible). As from 2005 all qualifying competitors for National Competitions will need to have their bowls re-stamped in terms of Law 12 details of which will be circulated.
Those NOT participating in County and National Competitions have no need to worry.
DON’T forget that bowls made of lignum vitae must bear the official BIBC stamp. The currency of the stamp shall be for a period of 10 (ten) years expiring on 31st December and the imprint on the bowl shall record the latest year which such bowl be validly used.
DON’T forget the Bowls England Handbook. Every club should possess at least one which contains interesting data of use to all. The cost is £3.00 ordered through the County Secretary.
DON’T forget the DATE for sending in the ballot vote for the Surrey Executive is October 21st.
DON’T forget your Surrey County metal badge. These are available from the County Treasurer at £1.70 each, plus postage. Every member of each affiliated club is entitled to wear one, so make your membership of the SCBA known wherever you go. Also Ladies Brooches at £1.70 plus P & P.
DON’T forget that when spending money on a set of your own bowls, make sure they are the right size for YOU. Try out, if possible with the help of fellow bowlers, several bowls before making up your mind.
DON’T forget all clubs need to bring a signed consent form for all Junior Members. Every Coach/Instructor has to complete a reference form, as per Bowls England guidelines.
Bowls England is running, besides the National Club Two Fours Knockout Competition, a National Singles and Pairs for bowlers of 55 and over, a National Mixed Pairs and a National Mixed Fours, also a Champion of Champions. It is hoped that the bowlers of Surrey will participate in these competitions wherever possible.
DO purchase Laws of the Game booklets at £1.60 each plus P & P (see base of page 11) from either County or Bowls England sources.
