URGENT  -  ATTENTION ALL CLUB SECRETARIES & BOWLERS

For some inexplicable reason, the return of “Forms D” from Clubs (that is a form for badged players to apply for County matches) have been disappointingly slow this year. Although March 19th. is officially the last date for the submission of these forms to County Match Secretary Jim Green, would those Clubs who have not yet done so please action as soon as possible.

Any badged player who has not yet been contacted by their Club Secretary, and who would like to be considered for County matches should take one of the following options :-

1)         Chase their Club Secretary (who should have a list of County matches for 2008) and ensure that their choices are submitted or

2)         Check out the ‘Fixtures and Results’ page of this website for the full list of all County games and apply direct to Jim Green by separate letter (see Jim’s details below) or

3)         Contact County Match Secretary Jim Green on 01483 276605 (home) or 07849 405613 (mobile) or write to him at 5 The Glebe, Ewhurst, Cranleigh, Surrey, GU6 7PY. Jim will be pleased to take your availability or send you the appropriate forms to apply.

Whilst County matches are currently restricted to those Club bowlers who are ‘badged’, County President’s matches are available to ANY Club bowler wishing to apply, badged or unbadged. Again, the ‘Fixtures & Results’ page of this website lists the various fixtures and ALL bowlers are invited and welcome to apply. There are some seventeen such matches in 2008 and we are anxious to make these available to a wide range of Club bowlers as well as Officers and Executive Councillors of the County.  This will be your opportunity to play with those officials who make the County tick !

Please help to support your County President (Frank Dodd) and the best way to do this is to follow the instructions listed on item 2) and 3) above. Your help and co-operation would be greatly appreciated.

CRAWFORD CUP

The first leg of the Crawford Cup (a match between the Indoor & Outdoor County Bowling Associations) was played on Wednesday 28 November 2007 at Wey Valley IBC. The Indoor Association, as usual, won the match overall - this time by 141 - 114 but, crucially, only won on 3 rinks. As a result the Indoor Association claimed 5 points, and the Outdoor 3 points. The Outdoor rink of Franco Mannini, Aga Hassan, Peter Wright and Roy Strudwick took the plaudits for an excellent highest winning rink. Rinks skipped by Andy Hawes and Mike Haigh also won. The second leg, outdoors, will be played on Sunday 15 June 2008 at Old Coulsdon BC commencing at 2.30 pm. The Indoor Association are current holders but may find it difficult to defend their 27 shot Wey Valley victory at Old Coulsdon. The Cup is awarded on points, and the aggregate match scores only count in the event of a tie on points.

BOWLS INTERNATIONAL ARTICLE

'Bowls program reinvented'

This program developed by Surrey bowler Len Thompson has now been incorporated into a website http://www.sportsdraw.co.uk for the benefit of all competition/tournament organisers.

Please go to the website and try it out.
To run the draw program all that is required is to place the competition entries in a single column, add dates of rounds, press a submit button, and the system handles the rest of the process. It allocates a random number for each entry; it then sorts all the entries into order, preliminaries and byes, and finally prints the draw out for you in less than a minute in the normal format, ready for your noticeboard showing all rounds up to the final.

If anyone would like more information on any aspect of the program or site please contact Len via email at len@sportsdraw.co.uk or Tel: 01483 274535
